WHAT IS A NETWORK?

A network is a way to tie two or more computers together allowing them shared access to printers, scanners,

data, and the internet.  Simply put, with a network you have two or more computers and only have to have one

printer.  This not only saves money on peripherals but also saves time by allowing users to share each others

data.  With a network there is no need to copy data on to floppy disks to share with other users.

Business networks usually have a central computer called a server where all the data that is to be shared is

stored.  The Server is usually backed up every night to protect the data.

           WHAT IS A HOME NETWORK?

A home network is a simpler kind of network that normally uses radio technology in order to make the computers

communicate.  Many households now have more than one computer and connecting them together is the next

step.  It makes it possible for all computers to share a single Internet line, a scanner, or a printer.....thus saving

hundreds of dollars in the cost of extra peripherals.

             Share internet access:

That's right...with a network it is not necessary for each computer to have its own phone line to access the

Internet.  All machines can share the bandwidth of the computer that connects to the internet.

             Share printers and scanners
                       E
very user on the network will be able to share a printer or a scanner or any other peripherals.

             Play multi-user games

The whole family can play adventure games, racing games etc... against one another.

             And much more

You can backup your files on a second computer across the network instead of on a stream of floppy disks.

Home networks make the most of the capabilities of database programs or agendas and share your information with

other users on the network. If your old computer does not have a CD-ROM, you can easily use the CD-ROM on

another computer to install programs, read files or play games. You can add an internet camera and connect to

your home network remotely to keep an eye on the nanny or your fish tank while on vacation!  It is easy to make

use of video conferencing and internet phone anywhere in the house.  It also enables you to connect various home

appliances together and automate your house (lighting, heating, alarms, etc...)
